Steve, I saw in your earlier post where you suggested that we do NEED
such a mechanism, but have you also actually suggested any particular
mechanism?
What about using HTTP redirects? An HTTP 301 (permanent redirect) would
seem to me to convey the message pretty well.
There is now even provision in the WebDAV spec for maintaining such
things (i.e. creating and updating what the spec calls "Redirect
Reference Resources"). See http://greenbytes.de/tech/webdav/rfc4437.html
