[topicmapmail] Accessing and visualizing TM info

List,
I'm being involved in a number of projects relaying (some in part, some
totally) on topic maps for the back-end ia, classification issues and
access to content. These are all web-based applications.
One of them deals with a fenced, well-identified academic domain, while
at least one of the others has a much broader scope and moves into
folksonomies territory, implying a much larger database to deal with.
I'm an IA and I've been sniffing topic maps cautiously since 2004: now
we are in that part of the project that sees me simply gobbling down
some zillion papers on them and related subjects, and I have no troubles
admitting that I'm probably a bit more confused than I should be at
least under normal conditions, but there is something that while reading
on is constantly bugging me.
Since I couldn't find anything relevant on the subject, nor googling,
nor checking the ML archives, I thought that asking the experts was the
way to go.
The question is: has anybody ever thought about rendering TM info without
using graph variants of some kind? Is there any theoretical or practical
study / opinion / blog entry on this?
Thanks a lot in advance,
