[topicmapmail] Inference rules

Like the others who have replied to your message, I believe that inferences
rules are not part of a Topic Map per se but are something that can be used
in conjunction with one. Several of the recent replies have discussed
inference rules applied to the data in a TM from the outside, through such
things as a query language. Several years ago I did a study of using a TM to
express the inference rules needed by an external engine we had developed
for a project (Ferret). I'd probably change a number of details if I were to
revisit this project today, but you can see what my thinking was back then
in the published version of a conference paper, available at
