Hello everybody,

I just extended the hypergraph homepage with a section about tm =
visualisation (http://hypergraph.sourceforge.net/example_tm.html). I use =
the hyperbolic visualisation technique of hypergraph together with =
Stefan Lischke's TinyTIM engine to show a simplified graph structure of =
a whole topicmap.

What I aim at, is to give a user an overview of the whole topicmap, =
which is of course difficult because of the sheer size of some =
topicmaps. I tried to reduced the number of nodes / edges by selecting =
only a subset of topics and simplifying associations, because I think =
that most users are irritated when the whole graph structure of a =
topicmap is shown.

For example I present binary associations with one single edge, i.e. I =
don't show the roles / instances of a association. Of course I use them =
to label the edge, but they are not part of the graph itself. The same =
applies for instances, which are not presented as edges.

The resulting graph sometimes contains several connected components. =
These components are fairly easy to spot with the used layout and it =
might be a good indicator that a topic map needs contains some parts =
that are never looked at by the user because they are not connected via =
associations to the rest of the map.=20

I would be glad if you could try it out and give comments.

Regards,

Jens Kanschik.
