| Is scoping topics really unapplicable? Suppose I have a repository
| of documents, and I want to see the "reviewed" ones and not the
| "unreviewed". What would be the recommended approach?

I've generally done that by having a topic type "status", with
"reviewed" and "unreviewed" as statuses, and then associated them with
each document.

If it really is binary (ie, only two states) you can use unary
associations as well.
