| One potential problem with traversals is that a user is likely to
| stumble onto the information he wants with some luck, after a number
| of false starts. You wouldn't necessarily want to use such a trace
| the way you are picturing.

I was thinking the same thing, but it occurred to me that if the user
could open a window and see the list of topics in the "context" and
throw out any unwanted ones, that might solve that problem.

I think the bigger problem is how to make use of the "context". Maybe
by showing all topics within a certain distance of at least two of the
topics in the context, or something?

| I am beginning to experiment with clustering in my topic map
| bookmark assistant, and hope to be able to have a late-breaking
| paper on it for Extreme. In the meantime, on-the-fly clustering is
| hard but looks promising.

That sounds interesting! I hope your paper gets accepted. :)

| With the bookmark assistant, the clustering would be done using the
| titles of bookmarks. It is interesting to wonder what information
| could be used in a more general topic map.

Indeed!
