On of my students combined a Topic Map Engine (OKS)
with a geographic information system (GIS).
GIS has a concept of points of interests (POIs).
Loosely speaking, a POI is a place which is of some
interest for somebody. (Sound as weak as the definition
of the subject in TM ;-) )
Of course, POIs can be interpreted as topics.
That's what he did in his diploma thesis. Thus, other
topics can be associated with POIs. The semantic of this
association is "this topic is relevant at this point / in
the surrounding of this point"
Coordinates of a POI can now be issued to the
system. Result is a set of topics.
In other words, it is a location based service based on
topic maps.
