Well, if it's any consolation, I'm also "one of those".

Patrick,

Among the myriad of specifications being produced, is it possible to
simply *ignore* this new one? Not everything gets traction, and I
will probably be among greasing the skids so that not everything does.
Unless someone can explain why XRI is truly an improvement.

The world is plenty difficult already without people trying to simplify
it by making it more complicated.
