FYI. This is from the NewsML community. You may or may not be aware that N=
ewsML contains "topic" structures inspired by XTM, although it does not cont=
ain association structures.

For those who gather information about news (and NewsML) related
initiatives, a new spec called ENT (Easy News Topics) offers a simpler
alternative to XTM (Topic Maps) for topic integration in RSS2.0
descriptors. It relies on the idea that RSS "RDF based taxonomy module"
(2000) wasn't broadly used because of its "perceive complexity"...

The result is somewhat close to NewsML TopicSets:

Example:

http://www.example.org/blog/2003/04/08.html#a855</>

Here is the text of the item.</>
        <ent:cloud xmlns:ent=3D"http://www.purl.org/NET/ENT/1.0/"
href=3D"http://matt.blogs.it/topics/resources/topicRoll.opml">
        	<ent:topic ent:id=3D"sf_giants">San Franscisco
Giants</ent:topic>
    	</ent:cloud>
        <ent:cloud xmlns:ent=3D"http://www.purl.org/NET/ENT/1.0/"
href=3D"http://www.examples.com/mlb.xtm">
        	<ent:topic ent:id=3D"barry_bonds"
ent:classification=3D"player">Barry Bonds</ent:topic>
        	<ent:topic ent:id=3D"ray_durham"
ent:classification=3D"player">Ray Durham</ent:topic>
        	<ent:topic ent:id=3D"felipe_alou"
ent:classification=3D"manager">Felipe Alou</ent:topic>
    	</ent:cloud>

Mapping ENT -> NewsML
----------------------
cloud -> TopicSet
   @href (href to a TopicMap or other topic list)-> no NewsML equivalent
topic -> Topic
   @id -> FormalName
   @classification -> TopicType
   @href -> @Details
   content (display name) -> Description

remark
-------
This spec does not offer multiple language description or id variants
(via schemes), as NewsML TopicSet do.
