I did that for performance testing purposes, but never published it,
as the resulting XTM was not very interesting.

I won't comment on the PlumTree thing, as I haven't seen it. After
having played with hyperbolic trees (of which StarTree is one
implementation) I'd say that they are quite useful in the case where
your topic map actually does contain a tree structure. Whether it can
be usefully extended beyond that remains to be seen.
