Unless you use a persistent DOM storage, of course. That would solve
the memory problem, but would be highly unlikely to perform at all
well.

I don't think that's very likely to happen. Michael Kay has tried
several times to do something like this with SAXON, but eventually
concluded that it wasn't worth the bother.
