I agree absolutely. The requirement that Bernard presents is an old
and well-accepted one, and, as Graham says, the way to address it is
to use reification. The reason why reification is the way to go is
precisely because you what you say: there's no limit to the kinds of
things you may want to say about the association. The best way to
handle that is to use topics, because there's no limit to what you can
say about topics.
