[topicmapmail] tagging vs topics

Hello

For some reason, in-text tagging is not so widely used. I am not sure if
topic map engines even handle mixed formats with XTM and some other tags.

Popular option for tagging is to have a separate metadata (topic map) file,
which only refers (via subjectIndicatorRef and resourceRef XTM elements) to
the article. If your material should be in XML, I think you can use XPath
references to the point of that topic in the article.

A third way is to use another tool to link your in-text XML tags to your
ontology classes. At least for RDF there are some...

Some metadata markup "standards" are (other than XTM):
- SHOE standard for HTML docs (Simple Hypertext Ontology Extensions), puts
the metadata at the beginning of the file
- RDF(S) family (RDF, DAML etc.), a generic resource description language.

I seem to remember there are taggers, or annotator tools, for some of these
languages...
