ABSTRACT:
 
XML-Data makes it possible to address two related issues which are relevant to data interchange, by opening up the definition of document structure:
 
In this presentation I'll discuss these in turn, with particular reference to the needs of STEP/SGML harmonisation. Illustrations making use of our preliminary implementation of XML-Data will be included.
 
  1. Direct reflection of domain hierarchical structures in the DSD;
  2. Expression in the DSD of lexical datatype constraints.
