 Abstract
To leverage the power of XML, we will need software tools and platforms that inherently support the standards. This panel brings together leading providers to answer questions gathered through the website prior to the conference and from the audience.

XML: transforming the industry

Many vendors -- not least among them Microsoft, Sun, and IBM -- have all invested heavily in XML. Those investments span from developing new technologies to using XML for their own information to marketing of the standard. But, whay have the made those investments? How do they see the market evolving, and the role that XML will play in it?
The goal of this session is to provide the attendee a glipse into the vision of three market leaders. The panelists, representing these organizations, will provide their perspective on the signifacant role that XML is playing in transforming the industry.
The session will begin with an introduction from each of the panelists, giving their company's view on XML. During their introductory remarks, the distinguished speakers will address questions such as:

  1. Has XML changed the way in which their companies perceive their role as a technology provider in the market? If yes, what has that shift been?
  2. In the early days of XML, we spent a lot of time distinguishing between "XML for documents" and "XML for data". Are those differentiators still valid? If no, why? If yes, where is adoption happening faster?
  3. What could be the biggest obstacles (market ot technical) that can hinder further adoption or success of XML?
Following the three presentations, the session will open to a lively panel question and answer period.

Getting your questions answered

The XML Europe conference is a great venue for collecting a range of technical and business information related to the XML standard, products, and implementations. However, it is not unusual for the sessions to raise additional questions. Often, conversations directly with the industry leaders can shed great light on those unanswered questions or concerns. This session provides a forum for one large conversation about XML: the standard, the market, and the products.
Questions, which were collected in advance of the session through the GCA Web site and those raised directly from the audience, will posed to the panelists. This is your opportunity to "ask the experts" your puzzling question.
